University alumna, Miriam P.
McCarter is co-owner of Special Occasions of Winston-Salem, Inc., a
business that has thrived for over 20 years serving as a community
resource and
source of pride. This ethnic bookstore/gift shop is a direct extension
of her
involvement with literary arts as an English-Education Major. Prior to
opening
the business, she taught in Norfolk, Va. and at R.J. Reynolds and
Anderson High
Schools in Winston-Salem. She participated in a wide range of
professional
organizations and did further study at Old Dominion and Wake Forest
Universities.
She received the Masters of Education Degree from the University of
North
Carolina-Greensboro.
She
has served on the
Winston-Salem Budget Advisory Committee, the Appearance Commission and
the Dell
Task Force. She has completed the City of Winston-Salem University
course of
instruction in municipal government. She has served on several Boards
including
the Best Choice Center, the S.G. Atkins CDC and as President of the
Society for
the Study of Afro-American History. She is a lifetime member of the
NAACP and
the W-S Urban League. She is a member of the local Democratic Committee
and the
East Winston Economic Development Committee. Among other honors, she
was
nominated for the prestigious NC Woman of the Year Award (Business),
received
the W-S Chronicle Economic Empowerment Award; Pioneer in Business
Award; Woman
with a Mission Award; the Ujima CDC Minority Business Award, and was
recognized
by the W-S City Council for Business Service to the Community. She is a
Charter
Member of the W-S Black Chamber of Commerce and served as its President
for
three years. She was chosen as the Chronicle’s Woman of the Year (2004).
Her
husband Ed is her
partner in business and life. She is the proud mother of two sons,
Renwick and
Derwick Paige, the second mother of a daughter, Sonja McCarter and four
grandsons. She is an active member of First Baptist Church where she
currently
serves as Assistant Financial Secretary.
The
Winston-Salem Black Chamber of Commerce is
honored and pleased to name Mrs. Miriam P. McCarter as its President
Emeritus.

Randon Pender, WSBCC
President
Randon B.
Pender is the owner of Triad Rehabilitation Services and has provided
case management services in the Triad and the surrounding communities
since 1987. Mrs. Pender is a graduate of the Winston-Salem State
University Nursing Program and has the following credentials for
rehabilitation consulting: Certified Case Manager and Certified
Disability Management Specialist. She is on the board of the following
organizations: NC Association of Rehabilitation Professional,
Goodwill Business Advisory Council and Winston Salem Black Chamber of
Commerce.
She is
married to Tommy Pender, they have four adult sons. Mrs.
Pender and her husband are members of First Assembly of God where they
are Small Group Leaders.

Bill Hubbard, WSBCC Vice-President
Bill Hubbard
is an active and vital member of
the Winston-Salem business community at large. His entrepreneurial
experience
has provided the Winston-Salem Black Chamber of Commerce with a wealth
of talent
and insight. As the head of the Chamber’s Membership Committee, his
vision has
helped immensely in the organization’s growth.

B.G. Norman, Treasurer
Mr.
B.G. Norman is a native of Cleveland, Ohio who has made his home
here in the Triad. He has been married to Rosemarie Norman for 39 years
and the
couple has three children. In addition to his service as Winston-Salem
Black
Chamber of Commerce Treasurer, Mr. Norman has been the owner of R&B
Distribution Services since 2001. Prior to starting his own business,
he
executive business positions as Region Sales Manager for R. J. Reynolds
Tobacco
Company's Hartford, Connecticut region (1967-1995) and Vice President
of
National Chain Drug Stores for Sara Lee Hosiery's Legg's Division
(1995-1998).
He is committed to improving the economic conditions in the Triad,
specifically
through the facilitation of training programs that improve occupational
skills
and business acumen.

Huff
is the owner of Huff Art Studio, based in
Winston Salem, N.C. The Studio specializes
in
Exhibitions, Portraits, and Commissioned Murals, and offers Posters,
Limited
Editions, Serigraphs, Giclees, and Originals.
James has taught at several colleges and universities, including Shaw
University, Talladega College, and Wake Forest University. His work can
be seen
in the movies "Lean On Me" and "Losing Isaiah", as well as
in Ebony, Essence, Encore, American Legacy,
Crisis, Upscale, and many other
publications. His work
appears in the
collections of attorney Johnnie Cochran, attorney Willie Gary, General
Colin
Powell, the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Bethune Museum of Art,
the
Tuskegee Airmen Museum, California State University, Shaw University,
The
Pentagon, the Martin Luther King Center, the state of New York, and the
Richard
Nixon Library, to name a few.
