As I
listened to the radio this morning on my way to an appointment, I heard
a
fellow entrepreneur talk about how he started his business. He
stated
that at first it was a hobby, but it soon became a burning
passion. In
order for him to turn his burning passion into a reality, he had to step
out
on faith.
What is
faith? Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) states
that “Faith is the substance of things hoped for; evidence of things
not
seen.” The American Heritage dictionary states that faith is
the
“confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person,
idea, or
thing.”
During the
course of my life, I have learned
that in order for you to believe in anything else, you must first
believe in
yourself. You must have a
feeling of self-worth and
self-confidence
before you can have faith in anyone or anything.
Far too
often, people have faith in God, faith
in their family and faith in other things, but do not have faith in
themselves. Faith is something people can tell you about, but
ultimately
it is something no one can teach you. It is a confidence that you
develop
when you find inner peace and inner courage.
Many of us
put our faith in others or material
things, only to be let down. Life deals us a variety of
storms. If we have no faith when a storm comes, our spirits
can
easily be crushed. In order to diffuse these feelings of doubt, God has
equipped us with the ability to handle our storms. The more
confidence we
have in ourselves and the more we are prepared to deal with the storms,
the
more faithful we will be through it all. No matter how big the
problem
is, if you have faith that you will come out of the storm just fine,
you will
be able use your God-given ability to disarm any doubtful feelings.
Your task is
to find your inner peace, step out
on faith and, most importantly, take a chance. You will never know if
there is
a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow unless you follow the
rainbow.
Yes, I know this is frightening to most of us. Think about
riding
your bike for the first time, starting a new job, and any other
"first" you've encountered. Think about it. You made it through
those encounters and tackled them head on. Why? Because you had
faith in
yourself and you had faith in God to help see you through.
Learning to
have faith in yourself is a daunting
task. Sometimes, I had to learn this the hard way at times,
but I
eventually learned how to disarm doubt and have more faith in
myself. Once I believed in myself and believed that I could
do it,
I turned by passion to become a entrepreneur into a reality and stepped
out
on faith into a new a more faith-filled life. Each day, I am living
my
dream because I have faith in myself and faith in God to tackle
the
storms.
Through it
all, I know that I gotta have faith
to keep on keeping on.
